Our Rocketry Club is open to students in grades 5-12 who attend school in the city of Rockford and it’s suburbs. The purpose of this club is to encourage enjoyment and involvement in the hobby of low and high-power sport rocketry. We will meet on Wednesdays during 1st and 2nd semester from 3:00 - 4:30. We meet in Mr. Manke’s Science Lab. RCS will host several launch days on Saturdays or Sundays (weather permitting) on one of our two launch fields. The high power field has an FAA waiver to 10,000 feet MSL. Both fields are East of Poplar Grove Airport. Students in grades 5 -12 who join the Rocketry Club will be building and launching their own rockets. For rocketry info contact Seth Caiola at [email protected]

You will learn the basics of high power rocketry, no certification required. See contact section to learn more!

TARC stands for The American Rocket Challenge, and as the name implies, its a rocket challenge. Members attempt to build a upper low power rocket to reach a certain height, parachute down by a certain point, and contain an egg that survives. This is only offered to RC high school students. go to the Contact form to learn more!

Rocketry Club for All members is $125.
For the beginner, you will have two rockets, a NAR registration, motors, and tools to build the rockets

Graduated from RC in 2023, Seth picked up rocketry during high school and has since earned his Level 1 Certification. He’s currently at Rock Valley College studying for his Associate of Arts, as well as a Media Production Certificate. He is currently working as a contractor for churches and production companies operating sound and lights. In his free time, he enjoys sports, reading, and watching movies.
Will, like Seth, graduated in 2023 and is studying for his AA at RVC. Will has been in rocketry even longer than Seth, having dragged Seth into it. He has since launched dozens of rockets, and hopefully, his Level 1 Certification. In his free time he likes to hang out with his dogs, and play video games.
Although not a coach, Sather Ranum has been an intrigue part of RC2 since the beginning. As the NAR representative for northern Illinois, Range Safety Officer, and rocketry genius. A retired fighter and airline pilot, Mr. Ranum is the guy when it comes to aerospace. For the kids, he will be mostly just at the launches, but he is also working behind the scenes for our Level Certifications.
